As we reflect on sunnier days, the members of the Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department warmly thank Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for hosting the “Race to the Rescue 5K Fun Run” for the second year running. We are so honored by the community showing up to support CVFRD. This event has resulted in generous donations to CVFRD in 2023 ($2,693.66) and 2024 ($4,071.60).

THANK YOU to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the race participants, and all who donated to graciously bless the volunteer members of CVFRD and the work we do.

We are getting all the apparatus clean and shined for the parade tomorrow.
Road closes at 1pm, parade begins at 2pm.
The parade will begin at Station 31 and end at the Senior Center.
We hope to see you all out there tomorrow in your July 4th attire!!

Chugiak EMS was dispatched for a medical emergency

Chugiak EMS was dispatched for a medical emergency at Eklutna Lake last night around 1am. Due to the distance of the patient 13 miles back from the base of the lake, our partners from @lifemedalaska were requested to assist. Lifemed 2 landed at the Bold Airstrip and the crew was shuttled to the patient utilizing ALS-31 and the UTV. CVFRD is fortunate to have great front country rescue resources and partners to facilitate rescues like these in some vast and remote locations. All responders were clear of the lake by 0630.

This area does not have cell service or phones to use. Always remember to have an emergency plan, let someone know where you are going, and have a way to call for help. This rescue was possible due to the subjects having a satellite communication device to call for help.

Chugiak Volunteer Fire and Rescue hosted two joint training evolutions this past week with the Anchorage Fire Department’s B Shift.
Wednesday night covered tender shuttles and relay pumping. Engine 11, Tender 11, and Battalion 3.
Today, Crew 1 trained with Engine 11, Medic 11, ALS-1, and Battalion 3 on Cardiac arrest scenarios.
Great work and collaboration with our neighbors to the south.

Last month, we had the privilege of recognizing Clifton Dalton for 20 years of dedicated service with CVFRD as a volunteer responder. During his time, Clifton has served in leadership roles of Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, Fire Chief, and a Director on our Non-Profit Board. Clifton continues to volunteer as a Firefighter & Paramedic. Thank you, Clifton! 👨‍🚒

This September, 10 of our volunteers participated in CVFRD’s 2nd Annual Stepmill Climb to remember the FDNY men & women that climbed the World Trade Center Towers & did not return home 22 years ago. Thank you again to Eagle River Planet Fitness for graciously welcoming us again.

Last night’s training consisted of off-line searches with the water can, advancing charged hoselines through a building while flowing water, and pump operations. This was a great opportunity for many new and experienced firefighters, aspiring firefighters, and current Firefighter 1 students to work on skills.
